Andrea Knezović | Memento Pudorem

*

Memento Pudorem is an artistic research project which studies manifold aspects of shame – be it its influence on the artistic processes, varied ways the way we experience and understand in relation to internal-intimate or external-social aspects.
Although shame may not be something inheritable or biologically predetermined, it impacts all of us in familiar ways; we struggle with it differently, in hopes of hiding or covering our imperfections. The concepts of shame and guilt have been continuously connected to an association of a paralyzing emotion, which manipulates and incapacitates our subconscious from productive existence. But what if shame could possibly assist as a creative tool, or a mechanism for re-establishing selfhood, or even serve as an investigation device for human condition?

In conversation with Andrea will be Tevž Logar. The event will be held in English.
Within the discussion they will also touch artistic research as a method, a phenomenon so often misinterpreted in Slovenia.

Andrea Knezović

Andrea Knezović (1990, Zagreb) is based between Amsterdam, Ljubljana and Zagreb. Knezović often explores threshold states and ambiguities within social contexts. She uses her creative process as an instrument for reconstructing social paradigms involving bio-politics, body politics and liminality. Her work bears strong political references and is characterized by the use of everyday objects. Her work underlines the relationship between existentialism and abstraction within artistic creation and primary interest is to play with symbolic language and intuitive narratives, while reflecting the existing environment and its conditions. Looking at her surroundings through the prism of an artist, Knezović deliberately welcomes a sentiment of indeterminacy that translates into the general atmosphere of her artistic expression.
